How Tabular Trace handles your data

We read names and definitions: workspaces, semantic models, tables, columns, measures, queries, dataflows, reports, pages, visuals and filters. We never read, copy or store the rows inside a table or the numbers shown on a report.

When you connect a Power BI tenant, the scan uses read-only administrative access and returns descriptions only.

The files you upload (Power BI project files, model and dataflow exports), the map we build from them, the names you type in, your team's members and roles, and a record of who changed what.

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest and sits behind per-team access rules: only people in your team can see your team's projects, and a project can be restricted to named colleagues. Team owners and admins can limit a person to specific Power BI workspaces.

By default we keep your team's data until you delete it. A team owner or admin can set it to be cleared automatically after 12 months, 6 months or 90 days, and can delete everything for the team at any time.

Questions you ask in the Ask pane are answered from the map of your own content. Only the relevant metadata is sent to the model — never your report data — and it is not used to train anyone's model.
